The Certified Medical Assistant is a nonexempt position responsible for performing patient-oriented procedures under the direction and supervision of a clinician, RN, or LPN to ensure safe and appropriate patient care; assist the clinician with minor surgical procedures; performs a broad spectrum of clerical and administrative duties related to the delivery of patient care assistance
Perform phlebotomy and processes lab specimens (i.e., 24 hours urine) and maintains lab specimen logs as appropriate.
Answers phones, schedules patient appointments, make reminder calls, and assists with co-pay collections, as necessary, and delivers the highest levels of service excellence at all times
Distribute incoming correspondence (faxes, consult notes, test results, etc.)
Compile information requested in patient record audits and completes tasks in the time allotted by the company requesting audit
Update patient demographic information
Administer medication within scope of practice and documents administration of medications. Ensures proper documentation of medication administration
Handle prescription refills within the scope of practice and documents properly in patient chart.
Participates in Quality Improvement projects (MIPS, MACRA)
Anticipate the clinician’s needs and carries out orders
Obtain records and gathers all pertinent information that the provider will need to work up patient
Perform various procedures such as injections, and assists with perm catheter removals when necessary.
Performs medication reconciliation within scope of practice and documents medications in the chart
Maintain and clean exam/treatment areas, specimen processing areas, and medical equipment. Cleans and stocks exam rooms, procedure room and specimen processing area.
Facilitate the transfer of pertinent patient information between site and referring specialists, hospital, Urgent Care Centers, and ancillary testing facilities, etc. Participates in scheduling specialty procedures (Renal Biopsy, etc.)
Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate HCP’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care, and concern with internal and external customers
Must be able to travel to satellite clinics as needed to assist nurses and physician in lab
Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) standards
Participate regularly in skills competency evaluations. Participates regularly in monthly staff meetings and departmental meetings.
